053 – The Dative case with neuter singular nouns

In two previous lessons we learned how to form the Dative case with masculine and feminine singular nouns. Today we’ll have a look at the neuter nouns.

In order to form the Dative case with neuter singular nouns follow these rules:

For neuter nouns ending in …
о -> replace with у
е -> replace with ю, but
це, же, ше, ще -> replace е with у

ли́цо – ли́цу (face)
окно – окну́ (window)
де́рево – де́реву (tree)
зда́ние – зда́нию (building)
со́лнце – со́лнцу (sun)
жилище́ – жили́щу (dwelling)
варе́нье – варе́нью (jam)
