Lesson 080

Declension of Russian cardinal numerals

In this lesson we will have a look at the declension of Russian cardinal numerals. This is a lenghty and complicated lesson. You can use it as a reference when you need to know how to decline Russian numerals.

To avoid long lasting boring repetitions, only the examples are included in the audio.

Cardinal numerals are used to count things (one apple, two apples, etc.), we have covered them in the lesson Counting in Russian.

Before we start, let’s remind ourselves that the use of the cardinal numeral оди́н (one) and два (two) depends on the gender.

For оди́н, there is also a seemingly illogical plural form, however, as you will see later in the examples, it makes perfect sense in Russian.

Declension of numerals 40, 90, and 100

со́рок – сорока́
девяно́сто – девяно́ста
