Russian numbers above 100

Some time ago we have learned Russian numbers from 1 to 10, from 11 to 20, and from 11 to 100. Today, we’ll learn how to count until 999 in Russian.

Hundreds in Russian

Listen to the audio (at the bottom of the screen) and repeat after it:

100 [sto]сто

200 [dvyé-stee]две́сти

300 [trée-sta]три́ста

400 [chee-tý-ree-sta]четы́реста

500 [pyát’-sót]пятьсо́т

600 [sheest’-sót]шестьсо́т

700 [seem’-sót]семьсо́т

800 [va-seem’-sót]восемьсо́т

900 [dee-veet’-sót]девятьсо́т

Thousands in Russian

Thousand in Russian is ты́сяча [tý-see-cha] (feminine).

To count thousands you need to apply the rules of counting in Russian that we learned earlier, have a look:

1000 – одна́ ты́сяча

2000 – две ты́сячи

3000 – три ты́сячи

4000 – четы́ре ты́сячи

5000 – пять ты́сяч

21000 – два́дцать одна́ ты́сяча

25000 – два́дцать пять ты́сяч

Millions and billions in Russian

Million in Russian is миллио́н [mee-lee-ón] (masculine).

Billion in Russian is миллиа́рд [mee-lee-árt] (masculine).

The same rules apply to them too:

1 million – оди́н миллио́н

2 million – два миллио́на

3 billion – три миллиа́рда

5 billion – пять миллиа́рдов

Compound Russian numbers

Making a compound number is easy: no matter how long a number is, it is formed by placing simple numbers in sequence:

125 – сто два́дцать пять

307 – три́ста семь

410 – четы́реста де́сять

582 – пятьсо́т во́семьдесят два

999 – девятьсо́т девяно́сто де́вять

1287 – ты́сяча две́сти во́семьдесят семь

3228 – три ты́сячи две́сти два́дцать во́семь
