116 – The Prepositional case with masculine singular nouns

The audio for the lesson is available at the bottom of the screen under the blue button.

In the previous lesson we familiarized ourselves with the Prepositional case. Today let’s learn to form the Russian Prepositional case with masculine singular nouns.

Most masculine nouns in the Prepositional case end in е (just add it to the end of the noun or replace the ь with е).

дом – в до́ме, о до́ме (house)
стол – в столе́, о столе́ (table)
спектакль – на спекта́кле, о спекта́кле (performance)

Some nouns after the prepositions в and на take the ending у:

берег – на берегу́, о бе́реге (bank)
ряд – в ряду́, о ря́де (row)
мост – на мосту́, о мосте́ (bridge)
шкаф – в шкафу́, о шка́фе (cupboard)

Practice the examples of today’s lesson with the audio track.
