106 – The Instrumental case with plural nouns

In the previous lessons we have covered the Instrumental case with masculine, feminine and neuter singular nouns. Today let’s learn to form the Instrumental case with plural nouns.

If the word ends in …
… a consonant -> add ами
а, о -> replace with ами
… other cases (including й and ь) -> replace the last letter with ями

Examples:

дом – дома́ми (house)
нож – ножа́ми (knife)
край – краями (edge)
конь – коня́ми (horse)
луна́ – лу́нами (moon)
гра́ница – грани́цами (border)
рука́ – рука́ми (hand)
неде́ля – неде́лями (week)
ста́нция – ста́нциями (station)
ли́цо – ли́цами (face)
зда́ние – зда́ниями (building)

Learn some exceptions (исключе́ния):

дочь – дочерьми́ (daughters)
мать – матеря́ми (mothers)
ребёнок – детьми́ (children)
челове́к – людьми́ (people)
де́рево – дере́вьями (trees)
дверь – дверьми́ (doors)
за́яц – за́йцами (hares)
